New York City
Rosenthal is perhaps best known for his sculpture "Alamo," which is located in Astor Place in New York City. The sculpture, which is 15’ x 15’ x 15’ and resembles a giant cube, has become an iconic symbol of the city. Rosenthal also created numerous other public sculptures throughout his career, many of which are located in New York City and other major cities in the United States.
The next New York City installation was Rondo, 1969. The welded bronze piece was originally displayed at 110 East 59th Street and later moved to 127 East 58th Street in front of the New York Public Library.

New York City residents and visitors have likely also experienced “5 in 1,” 1973-74, a bold red sculpture located in One Police Plaza in Lower Manhattan. The 35-foot-tall, 75,000 pounds painted CorTen steel sculpture also happens to have been an unmistakable background character in dozens of films and television shows.
IN 1980, the painted steel sculpture “Steel Park” was installed At 14’ x 60’ x 40’ it is one of Rosenthal’s largest works. It was commissioned by Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc. for the public space adjacent to 401 East 80th Street, New York.
"Hammarskjold", 1977, was constructed in New York City at Hammarskjold Plaza, Second Avenue and 47th Street, where it was exhibited for six months. It was then moved downtown to Federal Plaza before being acquired by the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2018 the newky restored sculpture was gifted from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to Brooklyn College and is now installed outside James Hall on the West Quad Lawn.
